Sven, a Blind Streamer Knocked out his Sighted Opponent in a Street Fighter Match at EVO’s Event
Incredible stuff! - EVO commentator commented on the incident.
Born and raised in the Netherlands, Sven van de Wege is a blind streamer on Twitch and YouTube, commonly known as Blindwariorsven. He lost sight due to a severe brain tumor at age 6.
Sven started streaming 4 years ago and has 7000 Twitch followers. He attended this year’s EVO tournament in Las Vegas. And competed with a sighted opponent in a Street Fighter 6 match on the main stage.
In the match, Sven used E. Honda as his fighter while his opponent, Pancake used Luke. Sven made several combos, a double spin and a super knockout to defeat his opponent.
Pancake did his best, but Sven dodged most of his hits and won with a 2-1 score. The incident left EVO’s attendees stunned. They screamed and made a standing ovation.
So stunned, EVO’s commentator said: “Incredible stuff!”
When asked how he did it, Sven said he detected the characters' moves through the game’s sound effects.
Street Fighter is Sven’s most streamed game. But he said the EVO match gave him an exceptional feel.
Playing a Street Fighter 6 match on the EVO 2023 stage was one of the greatest moments I had as BlindWarriorSven! - Sven said.
The match’s witnesses commented:
